Let's take a second to honor some of the great African American innovators. Author Chris Barton, presents an exciting story about

Lonnie Johnson. The story entitled, WHOOSH, is a picture book biography of Lonnie Johnson. As a kid, the very inquisitive Lonnie took things apart and put them together in an effort to see how and why things worked. Later, Lonnie and a team of friends entered a robotics competition despite racial tension, which helped him increase his belief in his abilities to engineer . He later worked for NASA and helped to study Galileo in space. Eventually, Lonnie developed a device to improve the refrigerator. In so doing, an accident occurred which helped him develop a new invention. Today, we know his invention as the Super Soaker.
