Learn and Have Fun
Many kids think that you can't learn and have fun. Not so! You can do both and have a blast. This week in summer school, we have been working on main idea and cause and effect. The students learned about the history of surfing and skateboarding as well as how many sports have evolved from others. In addition, they watched videos of skateboarders and learned about an organization that promotes skateboarding for girls and boys in other countries.
I encourage you to read either of the attached articles with your child and discuss the main idea and causes and effects found within. For some added fun, grab a skateboard or hoverboard and try it out with your child. Some of the articles can foster discussions on how to help kids in poverty or ways to help communities. If you have younger child (3-5) you can have them listen to the story of the Surfer Chick and summarize or tell what was special about the relationship between the dad and his daughter, or how the chick changed from the beginning to the end.
