Number 2... two as 1

This is not the math you are used too, but in this case 2 things and the number 2 pencil must work as one. You see Linus the pencil wants to enter a contest but he is grouped or connected to Ernie the eraser who doubts and criticizes everything. This leaves Ernie with a defeatist attitude until smudge reminds Linus to do his part and find a way to be true to himself while working with Ernie. In the end, the 2 work as 1 and create several masterful works of art.

Linus the Pencil is a great book to use when discussing how and why collaboration is needed. Students can discuss how to give constructive criticism, respect for each other and how to best use each other’s strengths to work together. This is also a great tool for discussing theme and how mistakes can be growing points or Beautiful.

Highly recommended for classroom teachers and art teachers.
